Earthbag Architecture: Green Home Building Book #3, by Kelly Hart
After we built our earthbag house in Colorado, Kelly created a website exclusively on earthbag building, and he continues to work on that site, updating it with news of earthbag building all over the world
More recently, he wrote a book on the subject, as there is growing interest in this simple technology. By the way, the photo on the cover is of our house as we got started with it.
The earthquakes in Nepal last spring shook people’s awareness about how much more resilient earthbag buildings can be than the conventional concrete or stone buildings. In some villages most buildings toppled in the quake, while earthbag buildings remained standing.
At a recent natural building meeting, Kelly was able to present information to people working in Nepal, the United States, and several other countries, about this exciting approach.
Here is a description of the book:
Discover how you can build an amazing variety of structures using little more than the earth beneath your feet.
Earthbag building is revolutionizing how people around the world are thinking about ways of providing shelter, both temporary and permanent. Such buildings can be remarkably durable and resistant to earthquakes, floods, fires and even bullets.
Kelly Hart describes the basics of how to build this way, provides a history of the evolving technology and delves into detailed descriptions of the many different earthbag projects that he has been involved with over nearly two decades.
A survey of 64 unique buildings from around the world proves just how versatile this approach to building can be. A look to the future of earthbag building and a Resource Guide complete the book.
Some 240 color photographs help you visualize the possibilities of this unusual and sustainable approach to architecture.
We love being part of the earthbag building movement at this time in history. Here’s the book link again. It’s available in a large format paperback and in Kindle.
